12 - ICARUS Los "rastros" de Alejandro Magno en Kuwait/The "traces" of Alexander the Great in Kuwait



Fortaleza Helenística.

En su camino al extremo oriente Alejandro Magno mandó construír en un islote, el Faϊlaka , EN EL GOLFO PERSICO cerca del Delta del río Tigris ,una Fortaleza  que  nombró ICARUS .
Esta fortaleza  se constituyó en un base importante de control y re-aprovisionamiento en la ruta marítima hacia Asia, un puesto de avanzada .
Muy usada por el Almirante Nearco , esta fortaleza se convirtió en una Ciudad Griega con todos los atributos correspondientes : centros culturales, deportivos, religiosos, etc .
La investigación en la región comenzó con excavaciones realizadas en el período 1958-1985 por daneses , estadounidenses y franceses .
A finales de noviembre de 2007, Angeliki Kottaridi, arqueólogo, responsable de el sitio de Vergina , fue jefe de la primera misión oficial del servicio arqueológico griego. 
Templos, Altares y las inscripciones griegas antiguas que se encuentran, constituyen un conjunto único en los extremos del mundo helenístico.
La famosa columna de IKAROU fue restaurada:

"la delegación griega tomó sumo cuidado en el mantenimiento de la famosa columna de Ikarou ,que tiene una gran inscripción en griego y fue expuesta en el Museo de Kuwait " .
Había sufrido graves daños durante la invasión iraquí.

Hellenistic fortress



On his way to the far East Alexander The Great ordered build in an islet, the Faϊlaka, in the PERSIAN Gulf near the Delta of the River Tigris, a fortress ,  named by he : ICARUS.
This fortress became a major base of control and provisioning in the sea route to Asia, an outpost.
Very used by Admiral Nearchus, this fortress became a Greek city with all the corresponding attributes: cultural, sports, religious centers, etc.
A militar and cultural Center very important of the hellenistic world  to posterity.
Research in the region began with the excavations carried out in the period 1958-1985 by Danes, Americans and French.
In late November 2007, Angeliki Kottaridi, archaeologist, responsible for the site of Vergina, was head of the first official mission of the Greek archaeological service.
Temples, altars and ancient Greek inscriptions found, constitute a single set at the ends of the Hellenistic world.
The famous Ikarou column was restored:
"Greek delegation took care to maintain the famous Ikarou column, which has a large inscription in Greek and was exhibited at the Museum of Kuwait ". 
Was severely damaged during the Iraqi invasion.
