THE MOSAIC OF THE 2nd ROOM
"The Mosaic in the Tomb of Amphipolis marks the beginning of the european painting.
The use of blue and orange color, proves that the artist of the mosaic had knowledge of complementary colors. The same blue and orange color was used by the impressionists, like Claude Monet and Georges Seurat, in the 19th century."

Great admiration caused the full revelation of floor
mosaic of the room number 2 in the tomb
of Amphipolis.
The image of the mosaic represents the abduction of
Persephone by Hades (later called Pluto).
We see the sad tone of Persephone and hand extended as a
symbol of farewell to living beings in their journey to the world of the deads.
It is an expression of despair.
The mosaic shows the god Hermes, greek God of the trade,
fertility and the dead, leading to Pluto and Persephone to the underworld.
Hermes messenger
and son of Zeus, is wearing a floppy hat in front of a carriage with two
horses, led by a bearded man, Pluto, that initially it was thought that it
could be Filipo II , father of Alexander the great.
The archaeologists and the Ministry of culture now stated
clearly that the Mosaic represents the scene of the abduction of Persephone.
Katerina Peristeri (head of the archeological team), said
that the Tomb belongs to a very important person.
It has all the attributes of a Royal Tomb.
Mosaic is of vital importance : connects the tomb of
Amphipolis with the tomb of Vergina , where there a mural showing the same
scene in the Royal Cemetery, where the remains of Filipo II Rey of Macedonia
and father of Alexander the great were deposited.
The fact of the presence of Persephone, does not mean
that the occupant of the tomb of Amphipolis is a woman.
The details of the work are artistically exquisite and
impact for its content.
Among other things, the detail of the different colour
of the eyes of one of the horses (one black and one blue), could refer to
Alexander the great, who is said had
this peculiarity.
No doubt it is an exciting and historical research.
Is
must work carefully within the tomb and outside , above all with the
information, since one must be patient and avoid drawing hasty conclusions.
No one knows with that we find at every step, and
perhaps, in my opinion, there are things that may never be clear.
As we have already said, according to historical sources,
it is virtually impossible that Alexander the great is there, but it is very
possible that this large tumulus is connected with him.
My personal idea ( optional ) is that perhaps it was
built for he and was never used.
Let us remember that his remains had fate of Macedonia
and were diverted by Ptolemy to Egypt.
